The Centre's Purpose and Origins
The Centre exists to promote mutual understanding between people of different faiths and beliefs and to build respect between people as fellow human beings.
The Centre is a shared space where people are invited to speak freely and fearlessly, in the spirit of Listen to others as you want them to listen to you.
The Original idea emerged from the grassroots in a group drawn from the local Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh communities alongside the University of Derby. The Design Brief and fundraising were achievements of inter-faith dialogue.
The Future
The Centre is working strategically developing links to regional and national projects. Its local interfaith collaboration and project work includes working with statutory and community and voluntary sector agencies and organisations and working towards establishing greater links with the private sector. The Multi-Faith Centre has broad support which is continuing to grow, and works closely with the University of Derby in providing a number of links between Higher Education and the wider academic world. This includes links to the community whose involvement is part of an inclusive project of learning through skills developed out of greater understanding. |
